Hire Vehicle cover, explained

It’s an optional car insurance upgrade that helps you if your car is written-off, stolen and unrecoverable. We’ve designed it to make replacing your car stress-free if you can’t use it anymore.

You can add Hire Vehicle cover if you're an existing Bell car insurance customer.

What doesn’t it cover?

  • hire charges after 28 days
  • fuel, fare, fines and fees
  • excess
  • claims where you haven’t reported it to the police if needed

We won’t provide a vehicle that is the exact make, model, size and fuel type as yours.

We won't cover non-fault claims where the costs of a hire vehicle are recoverable from the insurer of the person who caused the accident. We also won't provide cover if your vehicle is repairable or recovered.

What about courtesy cars?

Courtesy cars are usually provided in all comprehensive car insurance policies. It’s not available as an optional extra and provides a replacement while a garage repairs your damaged car. It comes with some exclusions, like not offering one if your car is written off, stolen and unrecoverable.


What about non-fault claims?

We may provide a hire vehicle if a claim is non-fault. This is known as a non-fault hire.
We will discuss this step with you if you start a non-fault claim.

So, what’s the point of it?

It takes away stress if your car is unrecoverable.

If your vehicle is written-off or stolen and unrecovered, you can get a similar-sized vehicle, up to a maximum of 2.0L and seven seats or £400.

It makes the weeks following a claim easier.

How does it work?

We'll supply the car when you need one, following a claim. You have it for up to 28 days. If you don't need the hire car, then we'll provide you with a £400 cash payment.

After telling us, we’ll speak to Auxillis Services Limited, who supplies the hire cars. They’ll sort out delivery, giving you enough time to sort out a permanent replacement or for the claim to settle.

I have a disability and my car is modified to fit this. Are you able to provide a vehicle with the same modifications?

We’ll do our best to give you a replacement with the same modifications if you need one. However, if this isn’t possible, you’ll still be entitled to the £400 cash alternative.
